Wildfire Risk Warning

Following the prolonged spell of hot, dry weather, there is an increased risk of wildfires across Telford and Wrekin.

We’re asking everyone to take extra care when enjoying our parks, green spaces and countryside. Please avoid lighting fires, disposable barbecues or using any naked flames, and make sure cigarettes are fully extinguished and disposed of responsibly.

Last week, firefighters were called to a fire at Beeches Field Local Nature Reserve in Ironbridge. Thankfully, crews acted quickly to minimise the damage, but the incident serves as an important reminder of how easily fires can start in dry conditions. Beeches Field and neighbouring Lodge Field provide valuable habitats for wildlife and form part of the Ironbridge Gorge’s important green corridor.

Please help protect our communities, wildlife and green spaces by:

Not lighting fires or barbecues in open spaces

Taking litter home, especially glass bottles which can increase fire risk

Disposing of cigarettes safely

Reporting any signs of fire immediately by calling 999
